Campus Safety

District Emergency Procedures

Emergencies, whether man-made or natural, can occur at any time and for any reason. Hinds Community College strives to keep its students, faculty, staff, and visitors always safe. Hinds Community College’s Emergency Alert System is called EagleOne Alert. EagleOne Alert uses SMS/Voice messages, emails, emergency information line (601.857.3600), and the EagleOne Alert Website (https://www.hindscc.edu/emergency/eagleone-alert) to communicate vital information letting the College Community know when there is an emergency on or around campus and what to do to be safe. Enrolled students are automatically added to the EagleOne system. Students can also add parents and add themselves to Campus Location groups under their student account. EagleOne Alert is the accurate source for emergency information for Hinds Community College. More information about EagleOne Alert and how to sign up for alerts can be found here. Students can also download the app for EagleOne Alert by clicking the appropriate software link below.

Campus Public Safety is provided by a College-employed staff of MS Certified Police Officers and contracted Campus Security officers. It is the mission of Hinds Community College Campus Police to provide campus security services which enhance and support the mission of the College. Our goal is to promote a safe and welcoming environment which recognizes and respects diversity, thus improving the quality of campus life for faculty, staff and students.Further information about the emergency procedures of the Hinds Community College District can be found here.

All faculty, staff and students contribute to making Hinds Community College a safe, nurturing environment conducive to learning. We cannot isolate ourselves from the outside world, but Hinds Community College is committed to ensuring the safety of faculty, staff and students through “Community Policing”, as well as effective policies and procedures, educational programs and a community involvement philosophy in order to ensure the safety and security of our students, employees, and visitors.

Crime-Emergency Reporting Policy and Response

Current Hinds Community College District Policy requires that members of the College community report all criminal actions and other emergencies to the Campus Police Department.  The Campus Police or campus Dean’s Office will initiate an immediate response to any reported emergency.  If circumstances require expertise or assistance beyond the Campus Police abilities,  Campus Police or campus Dean’s office will immediately notify and request assistance from local law enforcement or other emergency services via telephone or radio.

There is an Anonymous Confidential Crime Report located on the Campus Public Safety Page.  This page is not intended to replace the normal crime reporting process.  The form is provided as a special service for those who wish to report criminal activity confidentially.  Campus Police personnel will not contact you because they will not know who you are, unless you provide that information to them.

Sexual misconduct policies and disciplinary procedures are found on the College’s website and in the Student Handbook.
