Program Description:
Surgical Technology is an instructional program that prepares an individual to serve as a member of the surgical team to work with surgeons, anesthesiologists, certified registered nurse anesthetists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel in delivering patient care and assuming appropriate responsibilities before, during, and after surgery. This program includes the education of all aspects of surgical technology including the role of second assistant and circulator.
Graduates of the program will be awarded the Associate of Applied Science Degree in Surgical Technology. All graduates will be required to apply and sit for the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (formerly the LCC-ST), CST Exam to become a Certified Surgical Technologist. The CST Exam will be a proctored exam that will be given one week prior to graduation on campus. You do not have to pass the exam in order to graduate.
Industry standards are based on the Core Curriculum for Surgical Technology.
The Hinds Community College Surgical Technology program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of the Accreditation Review Committee on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (www.arcstsa.org).
