Barber/Stylist

Program Description:


The Barber/Stylist postsecondary instructional program prepares individuals to cut, color, perm, shampoo, and style hair. Students are also instructed on the proper techniques for facial massaging and shaving.  Special attention is given to hygiene, safety, skin, scalp diseases, and equipment sterilization. Included is the study of sales, business management, laws governing the profession of barbering, and customer relationships. Instruction qualifies students for the MS State Board of Barber Examiners certification examination. To be admitted to this program, a person must have a high school diploma or high school equivalency (GED®, HiSET®, TASC) and must have the following minimum assessment scores: Compass® - Reading, 70; Pre-Algebra, 36; and Writing/Language, 43; or  ACCUPLACER - Reading Comprehension 70; Arithmetic, 40; and Sentence Structure 75.

**Additional Graduation Requirement: Any student (first-time, transfer, and part-time) who begins at Hinds Fall 2007 and later will be required to take Orientation (LLS 1312 /RST 1312 ) to graduate from the College. Exception: Orientation credit (1-3 hrs) transferred to Hinds from another college will satisfy our orientation requirement.
