Program Description:


The Early Childhood Education Technology program provides preparation for a professional career in the discipline of Early Childhood Education spanning a variety of career options. This discipline includes classroom instruction, supervised laboratory experiences, and work-based learning experiences. Students will develop competencies that enable them to provide services, teach, and guide young children as related to various child development professions.
                                        Advanced Placement in Early Childhood Education Technology

  1. Three (3) semester hours of credit will be issued in the place of Early Childhood Profession (CDT 1113 ) for those participants who have a letter of certification from MDHS/OCY stating that they have completed the Child Development Associate (CDA) credential training.  (Note: The CDA credential training requires 120 clock hours of instruction.    (2 hr lecture, 2 hr lab) requires 32 clock hours of lecture and 64 clock hours of lab for a total of 96 clock hours.  The curriculum content of the CDA program and CDT 1113 is very similar in scope.)
  2. Three (3) semester hours of credit will be issued in place of Administration of Programs for Young Children ( ) for those participants who have a letter of certification from MDHS/OCY stating they have completed the Directors’ Credentialing Program (DCP).  (Note: The OCY Directors’ Credentialing Program requires 135 hours of instruction and rigorous examinations.  CDT 2813  (3 hr lecture) requires 48 hours of instruction.  The curriculum content of both programs is very similar in scope.)
  3. Students must be currently enrolled as majors in Early Childhood Education Technology at Hinds Community College in order to receive either or both of the above advancement placement credits. There is no charge for such credit.

** Students who lack entry level skills in math, English, science, etc. will be provided related studies.

*** Baseline competencies are taken from the high school Early Childhood Services and Education program. Students who can document mastery of these competencies should not receive duplicate instruction. Students who cannot demonstrate mastery will be required to do so.

Completion Award: Associate in Applied Science Degree 68 SH



**Additional Graduation Requirement: Any student (first-time, transfer, and part-time) who begins at Hinds Fall 2007 and later will be required to take LLS 1312 /RST 1312 /RSV 1312 - Orientation  course in order to graduate from the College. Exception: Orientation credit (1-3 hrs) transferred to Hinds from another college will satisfy our orientation requirement.

A CPAS exam is required to graduate from this program.
